Dameranian Description

The Dameranian is a hybrid dog that is created when you breed a full-blooded Dachshund with a full-blooded Pomeranian. Since the Dameranian is a hybrid dog, its characteristics and personality can mimic either the Pomeranian or the Dachshund.

Most owners report that Domeranians are very sweet dogs that are friendly with everyone. It is common for the Domeranian to bond more closely to one owner rather than two or more owners equally. These dogs are very food motivated and will easily memorize feeding schedules throughout the day.

Breed History

There is no known origin of the Dameranian, but it is speculated that it was first created between 1990-2000 as a designer dog breed.

Breed Standards

Height:There is no standard height for the Dameranian
Weight:8-15 Pounds
Color:Brown, Blond, or Black
Coat: Long, straight, and thick coats. Usually the fur around the neck is the thickest.
Appearance
Dameranians are short dogs with an apple shaped head and a beautiful medium length to long coat. They have a longer body than Pomeranians and longer legs than Dachsunds.

Dameranian Temperament

These dogs want to be next to their owner at all times. They make excellent lap dogs and will usually pick a favorite person in their family that they prefer to spend most of their time with. These dogs are nice to just about everyone, but do bark at strangers.

Dameranian Health

The Domeranian's life expectancy is 12-15 years. Domeranians can suffer from separation anxiety when they are left alone. Normally hybrid dogs are healthier than purebred dogs.

Maintenance

Grooming Requirements – Domeranians shed year round and will require frequent grooming and brushing.

Exercise Requirements – Domeranians require one to two walks daily. While they are mostly lap dogs, they do have moments with high energy that a good 20-30 minute walk can help get rid of.

Living Requirements – Domeranians will need to live with the family since they suffer from separation anxiety when left alone. They do well in apartments and homes with yards. Since this is a small dog, it is not recommended to keep them as an outdoor pet since they can become a target for larger predators.

The following groups recognize the Dameranian as a breed:

ACHC – American Canine Hybrid Club
